2008/2009 SEASON

Steve Lovell – Manager: Steve became the new manager at the beginning of November 2007 from Sittingbourne whom he had been with since March 2005. In his playing days he was a prolific goalscorer with Millwall and then Gillingham. Other league clubs include Crystal Palace, Stockport and Bournemouth.  As manager of “The Bourne” first time round he took them to the Southern League Division One Championship. He then went on to manage Gravesend & Northfleet and Hastings United. He won an FA Vase medal with Deal Town.  Made 22 appearances for Town, scoring 5 goals during the 2000-01 season.

Hugo Langton - Assistant Manager - Joined the Nuts and Bolts as assistant to Steve Lovell in early October 2008. The up and coming coach was previously in charge of Rusthall and led Holmesdale to the summit of the Kent League.

Seb Barton - Goalkeeper - Seb joined Ashford town from Blue Square Conference side Lewes in November 2008. The promising keeper previously had spells at Eastbourne Borough and Folkestone Invicta and is a former English schoolboy trialist.

Elliott Brathwaite - Age 18 - Defender - A strong centre-back who moved to Homelands on loan from Blue Square Conference side Hampton & Richmond during the 2008-09 campaign. Elliott is noted for his aerial ability and is a good passer of the ball. He is the younger brother of Daniel Brathwaite.

Craig Wilkins - Defender - Signed in November 2008 from local rivals Folkestone Invicta having only joined them from Dover Athletic at the start of the 2008-09 campaign. The commanding defender has also played for Gravesend & Northfleet and Tonbridge Angels and can also double up as a useful striker.

Orlando Smith - Age 21 - Forward - Signed on loan from Welling United in February 2009. Smith, who is nicknamed "Mucu", can play on the wing or as a second striker. He represented Jamaica at Under 12 to Under 17 levels and has also played for Chipstead and Beckenham Town in England.

Jimmy Bottle – Age 19 – Forward:  Signed from the reserves September 2007 where he had impressed with his consistent performances.  A former Arsenal and Gillingham youth player.

Daniel Brathwaite – Age 26 – Defender: Signed in the summer of 2007 from Dover Athletic. Comfortable in both the left back and left wing back positions, Daniel enjoyed a spell with Watford in his early days before his release in March 2001.

Ryan Briggs – Age 27 – Midfield:  Signed November 2007 from Folkestone Invicta, having rejoined them during the summer from Dartford.  Was on the books of West Ham United and has also played for Erith & Belvedere and Tonbridge Angels.

Tony Browne – Age 31 – Midfield:  An ex West Ham and Brighton right sided/wing back player, Tony joined from Dover Athletic during for the start of the 2007/08 season having been at Crabble for a number of seasons with the exception of season 2004/05 when he played for Welling United.

Jimmy Elford – Age 28 – Defender:  Signed from Hastings United during the close season for whom he made over 250 appearances in two spells having played for St Leonards in between. Jimmy has previously played for Hailsham and is a regular member of England’s Futsal squad.

Charlie Glyde – Age 19 – Midfield:  Signed during the close season from Folkestone Invicta although he is no stranger at The Homelands having spent a couple of months on loan at the start of last season before moving on loan to Sittingbournea.  Returned to Invicta for the second half of the season and was a regular in the squad. Charlie is a former Gillingham Youth player.

James Humphreys – Age 19 – Midfield:  Impressed whilst playing for the reserve team last season and made it into the first team towards the end of the season.

Darren Ibrahim – Age 21 – Goalkeeper:  Signed during the close season, Darren was a former Gillingham YTS scholar before going to Welling United.  Has also played for Beckenham Town.

Paul Jones – Age 28 – Forward: Rejoined from Folkestone Invicta November 2007 for whom he had left at the end of season 2004/05.  Paul is a former Gillingham youth team player and was top goalscorer with Hastings when the Sussex club won the Eastern Division during the 2001-02 season.  Originally joined Ashford 2003/04 from Welling United, for whom he had played since July 2002.  Last season’s Player’s Player and Supporter’s Player of the Year.

Mark Lovell – Age 25 – Forward:  Signed November 2007 from Dover Athletic whom he joined in the summer.  Mark is a former Gillingham player and has also played for St Leonards (loan), Hastings United, Sittingbourne and Welling United.

Danny Lye – Age 27 – Midfield:  Danny is well-known on the Kent football scene after enjoying spells with Dartford, Tonbridge and Dover before moving to Town for a third stint at the club. A utility player by trade, Danny rejoined at the start of the 2007/08 season.

Sean Ray – Age 27 – Defender: Signed from Hastings United upon in his release from the Club November 2007.  Sean is an inspirational central defender who joined United in August 2004.  Has also played for St Leonards and is occasionally known to double up as a striker.  Manager’s Player of the Year last season.

Mitchell Sherwood – Age 22 – Winger:  Signed November 2007 from Sittingbourne.  An ex Hastings United player, he joined Sittingbourne at the beginning of the 2005-2006 season.  Pacy winger renowned for his crosses. 

Josh Willis – Age 19 – Goalkeeper:  Signed during the close season from Sittingbourne after spending pre-season with Eastbourne Borough.  Josh is an ex Gillingham and Chelsea Youth player.  Has also played for Rye United.
