Match Reports:

Young nuts and bolts in commanding form
Ashford Town u 12’s 14  Park Farm 0

A superb display from the Ashford youngsters saw them trounce their Park Farm counterparts this weekend.

As per usual Town start on the front-foot and took the lead when the prolific Kieran Shrimpton latched onto a long ball forward and found the net at the third time of trying. Two minutes later Ryan Mairs doubled the Town lead as Park Farm already looked beaten. Town extended their lead straight from the restart when Connor Hales won the ball in midfield and again released Shrimpton to score his second of the day.

The midfield play from Aidan Shell, Jake Foad and Mairs set the tone throughout, as their fighting abilities put Park Farm under pressure all game. Town led 3-0 at the break. The second-half saw the floodgates open.

The pick of the second-half goals came from Harry Back, who impressed throughout up-front with Shrimpton, and made it four before Eamon Plowright struck his first goal for the club to make it five. Park Farm finally woke up after this but their attempts at attacking were thwarted by Thomas Peak and Jack Guy in the Ashford defence.

Town’s goal of the game from Rudi Beerensson. A flowing football move involving Guy, Peak and Kyle Snow allowed the winger to strike late on. Ashford ran out comprehensive winners.

There is now only one game to go against Betteshanger and Ashford Town will need to be on top form if they are going to break into the top three.

Team: Conor Hales, Jack Guy, Ryan Mairs, Kieran Shrimpton, Harry Back, Aidan Shell, Thomas Peak, Kyle Snow, Rudi Beerensso , Rhys Threadingham, Jake Foad, Eamon Plowright and Keiran Wrightling.

Man of the Match: Thomas Peak

Ashford Town u 12’s 5 Herne Bay 0

Town ran out comfortable winners against Herne Bay this weekend.

Ashford started on the front foot. Sam Metland setup Kieran Shrimpton for an early opportunity, but the youngster shot wide with only the ’keeper to beat. From the resulting goal-kick, a weak clearance from the Bay ‘keeper fell to Matthew Missions, but again his effort went the wrong side of the post.

However, it didn’t take the home side long to find the breakthrough and it was their skipper Shrimpton who struck. When faced with a similar opportunity to the one he had previously missed, the forward man looked more composed and found the back of the net. Town and Shrimpton doubled their tallies just before half-time. Fine midfield work from Metland, Connor Hales and Kyle Snow released Shrimpton who put his side two goals up.

Ashford changed things around in the second period, but it didn’t stop their flow. Rudi Beerenson and Aidan Shell combined superbly to find Hales in space and after his effort was saved by the Bay ‘keeper Beerenson was on hand to finish off the move he had started to put Ashford three goals to the good.

Ashford gave a debut to Eamon Plowright as the football continued to flow. Bay were struggling to get near the ball and the fourth goal was inevitable. It was also inevitable that it would be skipper Shrimpton who put the game beyond doubt and complete his hat-trick.

The rout was completed late on when the impressive Harry Back, switched to the right-hand side, set up Shell who fired a fine drive past the Bay ’keeper to complete a convincing victory for the fledgling Nuts and Bolts.

Ashford town u 12’s 4-2 Folkestone Invicta

The Town youngsters avenged a defeat at Folkestone last season by beating their rivals in damp conditions this weekend.

Town started on the front-foot and a fine through ball from Sam Metland released Kieran Shrimpton who calmly slotted the home side into the lead.

The back four linked up very well, holding Folkestone off even in the poor playing conditions, due to the amount of mud on the pitch. Jack Guy and Thomas Peak where strong all the way though the match. Town doubled their lead soon after, with Shrimpton setting up his strike partner Harry Back to give Ashford a two goal cushion at the interval.

In the second half Folkestone came back at Town putting more pressure on Ashford's back four, and the visitors pulled a goal back early in the second half.

Town responded well and Conor Hales extended their lead again finishing off another fine passing move. Folkestone fought back again and reduced the deficit again midway through the second half to leave Town with an edgy last ten minutes. However, the home side kept their nerve and secured the points when Shrimpton latched onto a Back pass and finished well.

Ashford's Manager (Dave Olsen) was very pleased with the team effort despite the terrible pitch conditions.

Players: Kieran Wheeler, Rudi Beerensson, Jack Guy, Thomas Peak, Rhys Threadingham, Conor Hales, Jamie Gore, Harry Back, Ryan Mairs, Sam Metland, Aidan Shell, Jake Foad, Kieran Shrimpton.

Man of the match (shared): Thomas Peak and Jack Guy.

Ashford Town 5 - 2 Dover Rangers Colts

Ashford Town under 12's made hard work of a game that they should have won easily, in their first match after the festive break.

Town took the lead on 18 minutes after good work by Coonor Hale released Kieran Shrimpton who expertly lobbed the advancing Dover ‘keeper. However, the lead only lasted four minutes, after Dover beat the offside trap to level.

The equaliser shocked Town and they fell behind shortly after, Town failed to defend a corner as Dover took the lead midway through the first-half.

Ashford restored parity five minutes later. A great ball by Aidan Shell fed Jamie Gore who saw his shot well saved before Shrimpton knocked in the re-bound. Town then got their noses in front again. The move started with Rudi Beerensson at the back, and involved Gore, Shrimpton and Harry Back before it finallt fell to Hales who smartly finished from an acute angle.

Just before the interval Town extended their lead when Kyle Snow stabbed home from five yards after a cross from Shrimpton. Town went into the break 4-2 up against a battling Dover side.

Hales came close to putting the games beyond doubt when his shot was cleared off the line, as the fitness levels of the teams dropped after the festive period. Town secured the points on 48 minutes when good work from Snow and Sam Metland set up Back who shot over the Dover’keeper and into the top of the net for 5-2.

As the half passes the ball is evenly contested to the final whistle to give Ashford a creditable win with all the team making a great effort to gain this result.

Ashford Town U12 4-3 Deal Town Rangers - East Kent Youth League Division 2

Town visited Deal on Sunday for their first match in three weeks with a depleted squad and in the knowledge that the game was to be a 70 minute match on a full size pitch

The encounter started evenly before the Nuts and Bolts young guns took control. With twenty minutes on the clock Jake Foad converted a fine cross from Jamie Gore to give the away side the lead

With Ashford keeping their shape Deal try to advance but are denied by some good defending from Rudi Beerensson, Jake Guy, Rhys Threadingham and Thomas Peak.

Ashford doubled their lead five minutes later. Excellent work by Ryan Mairs setup Kieran Shrimpton, who calmly finished after having a clear run on goal.

The visitors continued to press on for the rest of the half, but failed to convert some decent chances. Deal hit the upright just before the break to remind Town that they still had work to do.

Two minutes into the second half Shrimpton grabbed his second drilling home from an almost impossible angle after more good work by Gore. Ashford were cruising

Deal fought back and pulled one back on 52 minutes, and began to pile the pressure on. Replacement ‘keeper Sam Baker made some top saves to keep Ashford’s lead intact.

On the hour Ashford increased their lead further when Shrimpton completed a fine hat-trick with a superb lob.

Ashford looked comfortable until two dubious penalties were awarded and converted by the home side to reduce the deficit to 4-3. However, fine defending and excellent fitness levels saw Town through to a deserved victory.

Ashford Town U12's 6   Dover U12's 0

11th November

At beginning of the game, Ashford started with good team play, however after the first 10 minutes into the game, the shape of the team was lost. The team's effort dropped, and the keeper was continuously put on the spot with the ball coming to him from all directions. Although there was some noticeable good points for example when Ryan Mairs kicked the ball out to the half way mark, then Kieran Shrimpton got a good first touch and moves towards the goal as he did on many occasions, but was unlucky to score.
Dover's Center back made some good movements with the ball, and kept Ashford on it's toes for most of the game. Ashford tried to bounce back but with no success.
The Dover Team became more dominant as the game progressed, but unfortunately with just 15 minutes left in the game, one of the Dover players went down with a serious injury.
The final result meant that Dover won 6:0.

Ashford Town U12’s 9     Park Farm Rangers 0
4th Nov Home - East Kent Youth League Division 2

Town under 12's made a quick start at home to local club Park Farm Rangers in Division 2 of the East Kent Youth League and dominated throughout as they ran out easy winners.

A pass down the left flank by Jamie Gore put Kieran Shrimpton in on goal and his lob put the home side ahead on three minutes.

Shrimpton nearly grabbed a second a minute later when he latched onto a fine Sam Metland pass, but the forward saw his effort miss the target. However, within 15 minutes Town killed the game off. Two similar close range finishes from Ryan Mairs and Kyle Snow put the Nuts and Bolts three up. Snow came close to scoring his second shortly after but his drive was smartly tipped over the bar by the Park Farm keeper.

Town extended their lead on 24 minutes, a poor clearance out fell to Harry Back who lobbed the ‘keeper from 18 yards to score his first of the game.

Another fine move put Ashford’s young guns further ahead. Mairs found Shrimpton with space in the box, and his cool left foot finish put Town in total control.

Ten minutes later strong run down the right by Metland was halted in the penalty box by a Park Farm defender and Ashford were awarded a penalty. Back converted for his second to give Town a commanding 6-0 lead at half-time.

The match was more evenly contested in the second period as it became more of a competitive game with the tackled flying in.

The goal of the game came on 46 minutes. The ball was sent into the box and expertly finished by a fine lob by Metland to extend the lead to 7 - 0.

Sam Baker remained alert in the Ashford goal, and made a fine save from the only real threat posed by the visitors all game.

Snow hit the post with a header before Town grabbed their eighth. Jamie Gore saw his effort well saved by the rebound fell to Mairs for a simple tap-in

Conor Hales completed the rout late on to finish off a blistering display from the youngsters.

A special thanks goes to Greg Conlon who made his first refereeing debut and did a fine job.

Ashord Town U12 v  Hugin Vikings on 21st Oct Home - East Kent Youth League Division 2

Ashford Town under 12's overcame a slow start at home to Hugin Vikings in Division 2 of the East Kent Youth League to come out the stronger to finish with a rewarding 8 - 4 home victory this weekend.

The young Nuts and Bolts started as if they where not at the races and Hugin took the lead with just five minutes on the clock. The Home side hit back a minute later, Jamie Gore released Kieran Shrimpton who hit the byline before squaring to Ryan Mairs and the forward slotted home with a first time efffort.

But again Ashford dropped back into a slow pace and fell behind again. A corner from Hugin was not cleared and a diving Sam Baker was unable to stop the follow up effort. Hugin went 2-1 up with just ten minutes gone.

On 17minutes more impressive play from Rudi Beerensson, Gore and Mairs supplied Shrimpton with the chance to equal up proceedings. The left-winger skinned the Hugin defence and beat the 'keeper at his near post to make it two apiece. Three minutes later the home side took the lead for the first time, when Kyle Snow latched onto Mairs through ball and calmy beat the onrushing 'keeper

Ashford extended their lead on 26 minutes. Harry Back delivered a corner in from the left, but his delivery eluded everyone, including the Vikings 'keeper, and nestled in the top of the net. Town were rampant and took a three goal advantage when fine one touch football from Conor Hales and Mairs allowed the impressive Shrimpton to grab his second of the game.

The visitors however never gave in and reduced the deposit just before the break direct from a corner to make it 5-3 to Ashford at half-time. Another slow start from the home side in the second allowed Hugin to score again, the visitors were fighting back.

The next goal was all important and to Ashford's delight they grabbed it. A truly wonderful piece of skill from substitute Matthew Missions proved the difference. Out of nowhere, Missions weaved through three tackles, showing great ball control, before firing home a left footed drive. Ashford led 6-4. The home side finally put the game to bed on 50 minutes when Shrimpton completed his hat-trick, showing great composure to lob the Hugin 'keeper after been put through by Gore.

As the game advancedsolid defending from Rhys Threadingham, Thomas Peak, Jack Guy and Beerensson make it hard for Hugin to get near to Ashford's goal to get back into the game.

Hales completed the rout for Ashford after more great work by Shrimpton down the left. Ashford ran out 8 - 4 winners in an exciting match, played in good spirit by both teams and supporters.

A speical thank you goes to Sam Conlon who was marking his first match as referee.

Ashford Town under 12

Ashford Town under 12’s 4 - 2 Dover Ranger Colts

Ashford start slowly as though they have just woken up on a Sunday afternoon nap. Things start to move with Jack Guy and Connor Hales. The ball the bobbling about in the midfield, and the pace is slow and painful for Ashford.

Then, with a spring of life, Ashford's Rhys Threadingham, Carl Snow and Kieran Shrimpton storm past Dover's defence which lets Kieran slot the ball into the back of the net.

Dover came out with all guns blazing, making a good break through. However Sam Baker (Ashford) blocks the shot from the Dover Striker with safe hands. There was also good headers from Ashford Midfielder Aidan Shell. Ashford started to look good going forward as Sam Metland passes a great ball through to Kieran Shrimpton and again skips past the Dover defence scoring his second goal of the match, just as half time approaches.

In the Second Half, Dover came out with a few changes. Ten minutes into the game Dover win a corner from which they manage to score a very soft goal, with no pressure from Ashford.

Ashford seemed to get a bit of passion through the game because there was some really good football, especially from Jamie Gore on the left. This resulted in a lovely flick over the defence, then passing to Matthew Misson who passes a great through ball to Aidan Shell who scored his first goal of the match.

This seems to give Dover a lot to think about but while Dover are still thinking, Ashford are still moving the ball from left to right and the ball falls to Connor Hales who crosses a pin-point ball onto Aidan Shell's head, which beats the Dover's Keeper.

The superb effort of Ashford's players resulted in a positive score of 4-2.

Ashord Town U12           1

Bettshanger c/w U12      1

9th September 2007

East Kent Youth League Division 2

As this was the first competitive performance for the new squad that had a number of new faces following several departures from last year's squad, this was going to need a hard effort by all to gain a result from a well organized Bettshanger team.  What it did turn out to be was a solid team performance from the young Nuts and Bolts.

From the start, both teams gave an entertaining performance with some solid tackling and creative passing.

As the half progressed with the ball evenly contested there was not much to separate from both teams.  A couple of chances from Bettshanger at goal were kept out by Ryan Mairs, who is awarded special praise as he is generally an outfield player but stood in as Town's keeper, and made some important saves when was called upon.

On 20 minutes the dead lock was broken when a shot from outside Town's box, was not shut down quickly enough defensively and although the ball was saved by Ryan it sadly spun out of his grasp and fell to an on running striker who placed the ball in at close range to make it 1-0 to Bettshanger.

Ashford tried to break through with Aidan Shell and Kyle Snow in the middle providing the passes which were just breaking down at the last line of defending and Harry Back, making some strong runs with the ball down the left wing, was denied by the Bettshanger defender.

On 28 minutes the ball was put through from Aidan down the left flank just in Betteshanger half and fed the ball into a open space to allow Jamie Gore to run onto and make a run with the ball at his feet, closely tracked by a defender.  He kept running towards the Betteshanger goal and drilled home his left footed shot across the goal to draw level.

The second half was again to be a close affair with not much to be offered to either team.  When called upon, defending by Rhys Threadingham, Thomas Peak, Jack Guy and Rudi Beerensson all kept out breaks from the attacking away team.

There was some hard running by Sam Metland,J ake Foad and Jamie Gore from passes made by Rhys Threadingham down the right flank and from Rudi Beerensson on the left but were all denied by close marking at the edge of the Bettshanger box.

A special thank you to Tim Holman from Great Chart to stand in to referee the fixture.
